Celebrating Chinese Culture

See the Mizzou Events Calendar for a complete list of upcoming events.

We are pleased to organize celebrations of Chinese holidays for the MU and Columbia communities. We also enjoy presenting cultural artifacts and activities, like paper cutting and ink painting, at several festivals throughout the year.

Family Fun Fest: Around the World

Come to Cosmo Park for Family Fun Fest: Around the World. Your family will love the many activities from all different cultures. At our table, we will present Chinese calligraphy, paper cutting, Chinese yo-yos and more.

Moon Festival

The Mid-Autumn Festival, also known as the Moon Festival, is a special time for celebration. Families gather to spend time together, watching the full moon and being thankful for the harvest. We will celebrate together with the Columbia Friends of China and the Mid-Missouri Chinese Association. Bring your lawn chairs or blankets and a picnic, if you like. There will be a performance of Chinese dance and music, and we’ll end the festivities by sharing moon cakes under the full moon.

Mizzou Homecoming Parade

Watch for the Confucius Institute during MU’s annual homecoming parade. You will see us passing out Chinese candy and doing a tai chi umbrella dance. Our parasols were custom made using a fusion of Chinese and Mizzou symbols and traditions.

Dumpling Festival

The Columbia Friends of China host this festival every year, and the Confucius Institute will be there to help. We hope you can come support the organization, enjoy an authentic Chinese meal and appreciate a selection of artistic entertainment.

Chinese New Year Showcase

Experience an ancient Chinese festival through the eyes of local students at 7 p.m. in the Missouri Theatre. The program will feature students from across Columbia sharing a selection of poetry, music, dance and drama in Mandarin and English.

Chinese New Year Dinner at the University Club

Join us for a gourmet dinner and performance in celebration of the Chinese New Year. Enjoy live dance and musical performances and an exquisite buffet dinner. Call 573-882-2586 to make reservations.

Lantern Day

Lantern Day marks the end of the Spring Festival celebrations. Make your own Chinese lantern, solve riddles and enjoy Chinese snacks during this celebration.

Chinese Youth Film Festival

Join us for the third annual Chinese Youth Film Festival. We will screen a collection of original Chinese movies selected for youth and young adult audiences. Movies will play with Mandarin audio and English subtitles.
