This year, many local friends joined us for a dinner and performances in celebration of Chinese New Year at the University Club on Feb. 6, 2019. Mary Stegmaier, the interim vice provost for International Programs at MU, also attended our dinner. All the members of the MU Confucius Institute were delighted to host this activity and give performances for those who were celebrating Chinese New Year with us.
We not only enjoyed the exquisite buffet, but also appreciated a selection of artistic performances together. We had a Guzheng Show, Fan Dance, Tai Chi Show, Water-Sleeve Dance and a group Chinese song. These performances were all prepared by the Confucius Institute and contained colorful elements like Chinese instruments, clothing, classical dance and martial arts. The whole show ended with the song “Loving Family,” which represented that we are all one family to celebrate Lunar New Year regardless of national boundaries.
At the end of the dinner, one participant expressed that he loves Chinese culture and language and he felt so happy to get a ticket because he knew the tickets were limited for this event. Also, he had a really good time!
